under the age of 65, to take part in everyday activities.

NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers. The NDIS gives funding directly to its participants so they can openly choose and control which
providers they engage to access services.

NDIS will provide you with every support that is reasonable and necessary. It’s especially true if your needs are not currently met. Therefore, it is advisable before the NDIS meeting to collate thoughts regarding your requirements and how you can improve your life.

The objective of NDIS is not restricted to increasing your funding; instead, it’s the emphasis to ensure that you receive all the supports your need to help you with your life goals.

  • NIDA planning meeting involves the NDIA planner who helps you with creating
your first NDIA plan. The discussion involves your support needs, lifestyle, and
    goals.
  • For this, you should undergo preliminary planning regarding your lifestyle, life
goals and the support you may require before the meet. With this preparation,
you will get a clear idea regarding what you need from the NDIS.

Yes, you can take along your family member, support person for the planning meeting for the support. You can also take your friend along whom you think can support you during the session. It will lead to better outcomes for the planning
meeting.

All your current supports will continue, and nothing will happen to those supports. Those pre-existing supports will stop only once you have an approved NDIS plan.

If you are not happy with your plan, you can request a review. For this, you can contact your planner or the NDIA and discuss the things that you are not happy about. You can opt for the internal review process with the NDIA for this purpose. You must be careful with the review process and ensure that it has all the supports
that successfully meet your requirements.

The participant can bring along anyone they would like to the planning meeting. This can include family, friends, support workers, and advocates.

No. NDIS is separate from the Disability Support Pension, and it will not be affected if you have a NDIS package

If you do not agree with any aspect of your plan you can request an internal review of the decision by the NDIA. If you do not agree with the outcome of the review, you can request a review of the matter by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). For more information and the application process see NDIS website Internal Review of a Decision If you have requested a review of your plan you are able to continue using the plan until you get a decision.
